Do228 NXT regional profiles - North America: Impressing with long range and STOL capability

North America is the continent of aviation. With more than 16,000 airfields, the North American continent has embraced the use of aircraft and the Do228 NXT offers the next generation of operators the opportunity to conduct special mission flights and move cargo or passengers efficiently across its vastness.

Covering long distances and serving hard to reach areas

North America is synonymous with large plains and long distances. Here, the airplane is one of the preferred transportation options. With a range of over 1,000 NM, the Do228 NXT is a convincing choice, especially in areas that are sparsely populated. In many locations, large aircraft cannot use shorter airfields or are not economically viable. This operating environment is where the Do228 NXT with a capacity of 19 passengers or over 2 tons of cargo truly impresses. The Do228 NXT has great operational potential serving coastal island communities, remote areas as well as populations in the wildnerness extremes of Alaska and northern Canada.

For example, most areas of the state of Alaska can be reached by a Do228 NXT flight from Alaska's capital Anchorage. The STOL (Short Landing and Takeoff) capabilities of the Do228 NXT allow the aircraft to operate from short runways that other aircraft simply cannot. Flights in northern Canada, for example from Calgary, Alberta to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories or through the Midwest of the USA, for example from Phoenix, Arizona to Salt Lake City, Utah are also within the impressive Do228 range.

However, the greatest potential of the Do228 NXT lies primarily as a transfer / feeder aircraft. It can be used to connect small regional airports with larger transportation hubs, thereby providing important regional connections.

Defying severe weather conditions

As there is no natural weather barrier to the north in North America, it is a continent with very unsteady and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The Do228 NXT can manage starts and landings under crosswind conditions of up to 30 kts and known icing. It is also equipped with a modern Flight Management System, which is part of its standard equipment.

During winter months, massive areas in North America are covered by snow. The Do228 has proven itself for years that it can reliably support operations in these extreme conditions. Engine starts of the Do228 NXT’s Honeywell TPE331-10 engines are possible to down to -40 °C / -40 °F.

With its long range, versatile cabin layouts and operational readiness in challenging weather conditions, the Do228 NXT is ideally suited for the North American market.

Caribbean connections

In contrast to the large countries of North America, the Caribbean and Central America are very different. There are countless small islands, short runways and partly unpaved airfields. The Do228 NXT can also play an important role by connecting the islands of the Caribbean by transporting passengers, cargo or performing medical evacuation missions.

The Do228 has already proven itself in this area with an impressive track record that includes operations in Curacao, Guadeloupe, Jamaica and Martinique among others.
